Tooth decay is one of the most common problems we encounter in our daily practice. Many patients underestimate it, especially when the decay is in its early stages and not yet causing pain. However, this symptom-free period can be treacherous... <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will show you a simple case from practice:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The patient comes in for a checkup and the dentist tells him that he has <\/em>initial caries<\/em><\/strong>. Fixing this problem would cost him approximately <\/em>120 euros<\/em><\/strong>. However, the patient decides to wait. After all, it doesn't hurt him yet, so why invest the money now?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A year later, the same patient returns to the dental clinic, but no longer for a routine check-up. Now he is literally dying of pain. The decay has spread during this period and affected <\/em>dental root canals<\/em><\/strong>. Price of the procedure? No longer 120 euros, but around <\/em>800 euros<\/em><\/strong>. In addition, he is facing painful treatment that could have been avoided if he had addressed the problem as soon as the dentist first diagnosed it.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do cavities need to be addressed as soon as the dentist discovers them?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Tooth decay is a progressive condition that does not stop or improve on its own. When decay spreads and reaches the nerve tissue in the tooth, the patient begins to experience pain that can be very uncomfortable and intense. At this point, it is often unavoidable to resort to more complex and costly interventions such as root canal therapy (endodontics<\/strong>). If decay is left untreated even at this stage, it can lead to even more serious problems such as infection or a cyst, which may require tooth extraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, when the dentist tells you that you have a cavity, you must not ignore it. A small cavity can be fixed relatively quickly and painlessly, but if you let it progress, it will invade the root canals, and that's a much more serious problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to prevent tooth decay from driving you to pain?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best defence against tooth decay is prevention<\/a>. Tooth enamel, which is the first line of defence against decay, can be strengthened with the right care. The use of special toothpastes, such as Curasept Biosmalto Sensitive<\/strong>containing enamel-strengthening agents is a great way to prevent cavities. These pastes promote remineralisation of tooth enamel<\/strong>which can eliminate the initial decay and prevent its further spread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is good to know that there are two types of tooth decay:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acute caries <\/strong>– <\/strong>It is early stage, white and often invisible to the naked eye. It can be dealt with relatively painlessly, less invasively and, most importantly, less expensively. There are even cases where no intervention is necessary because we can remineralise the decay using the right toothpaste.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chronic caries<\/strong> - It progresses slowly, but it darkens and spoils the tooth to the depth. If it reaches the dentin and subsequently the tooth canals, it hurts significantly and is more difficult and expensive to deal with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caries treatment at an early stage is always cheaper, faster and, most importantly, almost painless. So don't underestimate your dentist's warning<\/strong>. Just keep regular check-ups, maintain your oral hygiene and use toothpastes containing remineralizing agents to keep your teeth healthy and resilient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
