A painless wisdom tooth extraction is every patient's dream. But why do we actually need to extract wisdom teeth? You can find out everything you need to know about this procedure right here.

The wisdom tooth grows last. It may not always have enough room, or it may remain stuck in the gum, causing swelling and pain.

In general, they are two main reasonswhy wisdom teeth are extracted: inflamed gumsbecause the tooth didn't come out all the way; distortion of the position of the teeth due to lack of space.

In addition, they are also the most difficult to clean because they are located in the back of the mouth. This often causes tooth decay or an infection of the gum around the tooth.

Are you afraid of wisdom tooth extraction? Have you been told that you will feel severe pain? The wisdom teeth experience is very individual, varying from case to case. Therefore, you should not believe everything that is said about these teeth. Many patients have actually felt a great deal of pain when having wisdom teeth extracted, but patients in our dental office often tell us that they felt nothing at all.

So what do you really need to know about wisdom teeth extraction:

  • Trust the experts: experience decides!
  • If the local anaesthesia is performed correctly, you will not feel any pain! Today, pain is no longer "in" in dentistry.
  • To effectively plan the surgical procedure, the dentist must take a panoramic image or 3D X-ray.
  • It is not necessary to go to the hospital.
  • It is possible to extract all 4 wisdom teeth in one procedure.
  • A wisdom tooth that is poorly placed or only partially erupted requires a more complex extraction. The specialist will cut the gum to expose both the tooth and the bone, and it may be divided into several sections before it is removed.

Do you have to worry? Absolutely not! However, it is important to follow a few tips:

  • If necessary, take prescribed medication to reduce pain and swelling.
  • Apply ice to the affected area.
  • For the first few days, eat mainly a porridge diet.
  • Do not drink or eat hot liquids such as coffee or soup.
  • Do not smoke or drink alcohol (it can cause infections).
  • Avoid vigorous physical activity (may promote bleeding).

When is it appropriate to extract eights?

Yes, wisdom tooth extraction definitely has benefits. In addition to preventing infection and tooth decay, it also prevents damage to neighboring teeth. In many cases, it relieves pain in the face and mouth area and prevents the need for further dental interventions.
