In the modern dentistry is constantly growing innovative technologythat increase patient comfort, reduce the time of treatment and minimize the invazivitu interventions. One of the most important news is the use of laser for the removal of tooth decay. This technology brings a radical change in the approach to the treatment of cavities, especially for patients who are afraid of drilling or pain.
How does laser for the removal of decay?
The laser beam is precisely focused on the affected part of the tooth, where it removes demineralized and infected tooth enamel and dentin. Unlike a classic rotary drill, the laser works without contact and vibration. It uses light energy in the form of pulses that selectively target only the damaged tissue, while the healthy tooth structure is maximally preserved. This significantly reduces the need for deep and extensive drilling.
What does such a filling look like?
After the caries are removed by laser, the filling is immediately applied. The laser also prepares the tooth surface for optimal bonding of the filling material, which increases its adhesion and extends the life of the filling. The filling (most often photocomposite) is then cured with a polymerization light, which completes the process.
Treatment using a laser brings a number of benefits:
In the first place, in most cases it is completely painless, often without the need for local anesthesia. Laser works without physical contactso it does not create vibrations or pressure, which are typical for the conventional dental drill. Also completely missing the annoying high frequency sound, which greatly reduces the stress during surgery.
Laser technology allows for extremely accurate and friendly remove only the damaged tissuethanks to which remains a healthy part of the passing of a maximum preserved. In addition, it has a laser sterilization effect, which contributes to faster healing and reduces the risk of inflammation or secondary infection. The treatment is therefore ideal for children, sensitive patients and people with dentofóbiouwho common dental tools to bear harder.

Although laser treatment represents a great advance, it is not suitable for all cases. Laser cannot be used effectively for very deep or extensive cavities that extend close to the pulp. Some types of fillings (such as amalgam) are not compatible with laser. And of course, the higher price compared to traditional treatment may be a limiting factor for some patients.
