IT IS GOOD TO EXTRACT A TOOTH WISDOM?

Wisdom teeth, also known as wisdom teeth, are our third molars that erupt in adulthood, usually between the ages of 17 and 25. However, not everyone grows without problems. In some cases, their growth can cause pain, pressure on other teeth, inflammation and other complications. Then the question arises: When is wisdom tooth extraction necessary?

  • Lack of space in the jaw: If the jaw is too small, the wisdom tooth does not have enough room to grow and can press on the roots of neighboring teeth, which can lead to pain and damage.
  • Improper growth: A wisdom tooth can grow crookedly, into the bone or into a neighboring tooth. In such cases, it must be removed to avoid complications.
  • Tooth Decay: Wisdom teeth are more difficult to access for regular brushing and are therefore more susceptible to tooth decay. If the decay on a wisdom tooth cannot be treated, it may need to be extracted.
  • Infections: Partially erupted wisdom teeth are prone to infections called pericoronitis. These infections are characterized by pain, swelling, and inflammation. In severe cases, tooth extraction may be necessary.

Wisdom tooth extraction is performed under local anesthesia, so the procedure is not painful. It is a surgical procedure and, like any procedure, it has its possible consequences, but these are only rare cases:

  • Pain: After the procedure, it is normal for the patient to experience mild pain, which can be managed with painkillers.
  • Swelling: Your face and gums may swell after the procedure. However, the swelling should subside within a few days.
  • Bleeding: After the procedure, there may be slight bleeding, which can be stopped with special gelatin tampons.
  • Infection: In extremely rare cases, infection may occur. Infection is treated with antibiotics.
