In the dental clinic Majdent Clinic Every day we encounter patients who have concerns or doubts about the need for an X-ray. We often hear the sentence:
"I don't want, I don't need an x-ray."
However, it is the X-ray that is the key tool for accurate diagnostics and Security any ostomy surgery.
Case in point: the hidden time bomb in the jaw
One of our patients came in for a tooth extraction believing that he didn't need an x-ray and that he just needed to simply pull the tooth. However, our experienced dentists follow professional procedures and do not perform any surgical procedure without x-rays. An X-ray eventually revealed a large cyst on average 2,2 cm in the lower jaw.
Cysts of this type arise gradually, often as a result of chronic infections or incompletely healed inflammations. Since they grow slowly and do not hurt, the patient often does not even notice their presence. If left untreated, they can lead to thinning of the bone and its significant weakening. In extreme cases, a stronger bite is enough to break the jaw.
In that case, the causative tooth was extracted with extra care to avoid damage to the remaining bone. The cyst was removed and the space filled with bone material, which ensured the stability of the jaw. Without the X-ray, the doctor would not have known about this cyst and a fracture could occur during the extraction itself. Such complications would be very unpleasant not only for the patient, but also for the doctor himself. An argument such as:
"There used to be no X-rays and dentists did teeth anyway."
Some patients argue that dentists used to do their work without X-rays. However, advances in medicine mean greater accuracy, better diagnosis and safer procedures that eliminate risks and complications. Today we have technologiesthat allow us to detect problems earlier, avoid unnecessary pain and provide patients with a better and fuller quality of life.
If we stick to the past and ignore medical innovations, we would be endangering not only the health but also the lives of patients. It is natural and necessary to make use of modern procedures in order to prevent complications that could lead to serious health problems. We see the same thing in other areas of medicine; once upon a time, women gave birth in substandard conditions in the fields, but today we use modern hospitals with the best care to minimise the risks to both mother and child.
Why should we risk our health when we have modern solutions available that are safer and more effective? Regular preventive examinations and X-ray examinations can detect many problems at an early stagewhich means easier and less invasive treatment.
